A police K-9 officer was shot with a rifle while attempting to detain a suspect in Vacaville and had its leg amputated, authorities said Wednesday.

K-9 Murph, a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois, was shot Wednesday afternoon while attempting to apprehend a suspect.

A Vacaville Police Department K9 dog was shot while apprehending a suspect on Wednesday, VPD said. The dog was shot in a limb and is expected to survive. Police responded to a home on the 300 block of Regency Circle after the suspect called 911 and threatened to shoot others.
