By Sara Ruberg Perry, a miniature donkey whose handlers said he was used by DreamWorks animators as a model for the chatty “Shrek” character named Donkey, died last week at the age of 30.

The Barron Park Donkey Project in the San Francisco Bay Area says Perry was euthanized on Jan. 2 after his health worsened. Perry was well known at the park for his link to the 2001 “Shrek” movie.
