Exodus Chapter Outline. Chpt. 1: Exodus opens with a Pharaoh, ruling sometime after the death of Joseph, worried that the Israelites in Egypt posed a security risk for the nation. His solution to the dilemma is to enslave the children of Israel and weaken their collective power through an ungodly top-down hierarchical system of rule.

The structure of Exodus is divided into five parts. Chapters 1-15 detail Israel’s slavery in Egypt, God confronting Pharaoh through Moses, and Israel’s deliverance. Chapters 16-40 outline Israel’s grumbling, rebellion, and covenant at Sinai.
