2020年10月7日 · What is the difference between a G7 and a G major seven chord? I assumed that a G chord with a seven behind it would be a G major seven. Could somebody explain to me the difference and how they are typically written? I.e. what is the difference between a G7 and a GM7 guitar chord?

The answer is that even though a C major seventh chord would fit more "naturally" in the C major scale, the dominant chord is much more fundamental to our conception of harmony (for example, in the C major scale, G7 is a very important chord because of the tonic-dominant relationship).

2024年5月15日 · I see it as G7 -> Cm7 so V-I in relative minor where Bo7/C functions more as a passing chord which is an altered prolongation of the dominant. So it is definitely not "resolving" chord, it builds up the tension before actually resolving on Cm7.

(It works reverse too: think of all the Am tunes that go from G to Am rather than E to Am.). We can think of the C as substituing for Am. If we add an A bass to C, we get Am7, after all: A-C-E-G.
