Freshwater biome includes lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams. While ponds are small bodies of water surrounded by land, lakes are large bodies of freshwater surrounded by land. The freshwater biome covers roughly 20% of the Earth and 0.8% of the total water on this Earth.
