2013年8月7日 · What you're calling outdoor Romex is actually called type UF (underground feeder) cable, it resembles Romex, but it's not. UF cable is THHN conductors plus a ground encased completely in PVC. Romex is a brand name for non-metallic paper bonded cable (NM-B, as printed on the jacket) with a PVC jacket.

Add a "deep Handy box" (single outlet box) at outlet height and splice the wire coming from the floor to a new wire going up if you can replace that wire. 2021年7月31日 · That's because the price is not as inflated from demand like NM-B. NM-B is also used more frequently because it is WAY easier to work with. Wire prep 50 outlets with some good romex cable then try to do the same with equivalent size UF-B and it will be easy to see why underground cable is not typically used indoors.

2019年7月29日 · What you call "Romex" is actually NM cable. It is not rated for outdoor, wet locations nor direct burial. UF is rated for all three. For direct burial rating, what matters is the lettering on the cable, not the color. Several vendors are choosing to use white for NM 14, yellow for NM 12, orange for NM 10 and gray for UF of any size.

Consider a piece of 12ga wire. It's rated for 20amps. The resistance of 12ga wire is 1.588 milliohms per foot. At 20amps, a 12ga piece of wire needs to shed .635 watts per foot. That heat has to be radiated away. If it's allowed to build up, the conductor's insulation could be damaged. Best practice is never to run NM inside conduit.
