  1. Crawlspace foam board and fire code? - GreenBuildingAdvisor

2013年3月31日 · In sections R314.5.3 and R314.5.4, the IRC defines an ignition barrier as one of six permissible materials: 1 ½-inch-thick mineral fiber insulation; ¼-inch-thick wood structural panels (e.g., plywood); 3/8-inch particleboard; ¼-inch-thick hardboard; 3/8-inch-thick gypsum board; or corrosion-resistant steel having a base metal thickness of 0. ...

  2. Fire code concerns with rigid foam panels - GreenBuildingAdvisor

2009年9月3日 · What are the fire code rules and general fire safety concerns when using rigid foam panels in the following applications: - Exterior of wall with furring strips on top to form a vented rain screen behind siding. - Exterior of roof with furring strips on top to form a vented roof plain - Interior of roof to form an air tight vent baffle (a less traditional approach, but a possible …

  3. Comparative flammability of EPS, XPS, and polyiso rigid foam

2020年1月26日 · A lot of the rigid board products claim to be “fire rated”, but it doesn’t seem to mean much since building codes still requires a barrier like drywall for them. Dow/DuPont came out with a polyiso board product – Thermax – that claims to be unusually flame resistant and can be used without a barrier (in the US at least).

  4. How to protect rigid foam from fire - GreenBuildingAdvisor

2019年9月2日 · FSK facer can have flame spread and smoke ratings to demonstrate it is not a fire hazard itself, but that doesn't equate to any ability to prevent another material from catching fire. Unfortunately the current terms and requirements are moderately complex. Random spotty enforcement and a lack of understanding by many inspectors doesn't help things.

  5. Exterior Foam Insulation and Fire Safety - GreenBuildingAdvisor

2022年6月26日 · It is a pain in the . . . as you must choose the ci Mfr & the insulation boards of interest & then read & follow a [Fire] Technical Evaluation Report (TER) provided by most plastic insulation Mfrs for their products, often different TER’s for their different ci boards. Every NFPA 285 compatible board is covered by a TER.

  6. Rigid Foam vs. Rockwool on the exterior - GreenBuildingAdvisor

2022年8月12日 · It's fireproof, sound absorbant, and bulk water resistant. It's also heavy, expensive, and relatively hard to source. Rigid foam is nice because it's R value is a tad higher per inch, but nearly the same for all practical purposes, it's light weight, and has a lesser tendency to allow water vapor to pass through it.

  7. Foil faced ridged foam board near boiler? - GreenBuildingAdvisor

2020年2月25日 · Code is that ALL foam needs to be either covered (usually by at least 1/2” drywall), or be rated to be left exposed. The two rated products mentioned here have a thicker facer on one side and have been tested and approved to provide the necessary fire resistance. The idea is to keep the foam from igniting and spreading a fire around the ...

  8. Is closed-cell spray foam fire resistant or does it spread fire?

2012年10月18日 · "In sections R314.5.3 and R314.5.4, the IRC defines an ignition barrier as one of six permissible materials: 1½-inch-thick mineral fiber insulation; ¼-inch-thick wood structural panels (e.g., plywood); 3/8-inch particleboard; ¼-inch-thick hardboard; 3/8-inch-thick gypsum board; or corrosion-resistant steel having a base metal thickness of 0. ...

  9. Why is mold/mildew growing behind my rigid foam?

2016年9月21日 · The rigid foam will sit on top of the drain which will still get air flow from the unfinished basement area to address dampness. I'm wondering if I should install a vapor barrier underneath the lower portion of the rigid foam and the 2x4 base plate on the slab to further isolate any moisture in the perimeter drain. Would like any advice. Thanks.
