Although much of the country has a desert or semi-desert and relatively flat territory, Oman has mountains that include the Hajar Mountains (Arabic: جبال الحجر), located in the northeast of Oman and the far northeast of the United Arab Emirates.

The Hajar Mountains extend for 700 kilometres (430 miles) through the UAE and Oman. [6] They are located on the north-east corner of the Arabian Plate , reaching from the Musandam Peninsula through to the east coast of Oman .
