The original UB40 are still together, with four of the original members remaining, and a new lead vocalist in the form of Matt Doyle, an accomplished reggae singer from fellow Birmingham reggae band, Kioko. Doyle took over from Duncan Campbell after he left the band.

Babayemi and Lynn left the group, with Mickey Virtue joining as keyboardist in place of Lynn. The classic UB40 line-up was completed a month later with the addition of percussionist and vocalist Astro, who had previously worked with Duke Alloy's sound system and attended reggae dances across Birmingham. 2020年9月17日 · The band formed in 1978, when guitarist Ali Campbell, drummer Jimmy Brown and bassist Earl Falconer began rehearsing reggae songs as well as some of their own tracks. They were soon joined by several of their friends, including percussionists Yomi Babayemi and Norman Hassan, and then saxophonist Brian Travers and keyboardist Jimmy Lynn.

The band's line-up was stable for nearly 29 years, from March 1979 until January 2008, when frontman Ali Campbell left the band, followed shortly thereafter by keyboardist Mickey Virtue. Another member, Astro, remained with the band until November 2013, when he departed the original band to team up with Campbell and Virtue in a new version of UB40.

2024年5月15日 · Ali Campbell chose to leave UB40 in 2008 and started his solo career. He had already released his debut solo album 'Big Love' during the band's hiatus, and his brother Duncan replaced him in the band. Keyboardist Micky Virtue also left the group shortly after.

The members of UB40 have changed several times over the years, but the current line-up for UB40 is made up of founding member Robin Campbell, Jimmy Brown, Earl Falconer, Norman Hassan, and Matt Doyle. Some of the original members also branched out to create the group UB40 featuring Ali Campbell.

By 2021, with the acrimonious departures of Ali Campbell, Mickey Virtue, and Astro, the once well-populated UB40 was down to only a few original members. With Ali Campbell out, his brother, guitarist Robin Campbell, took over the band and brought in their brother, Duncan Campbell, to be the singer in 2008.
