I work in tech, getting a 13 is your best bet. I had a 12 for awhile and had so many issues with overheating. The 13 is essentially the same as the 14 (just with a slightly lower graphics card & one hour less of play-back with the battery) IMO it’s the best iphone that’s come out in a really long time & it will last you longer than a 12.

Frustrated, my Best Buy technician then tells me that the repair will take 1-3 days and I'd be able to pick it up by Monday at the latest. The battery life is much better on the 13 line across the board than the 12 line, with the 13 line being among Apple's best ever when it comes to battery life (except for the 13 mini, whose battery is definitively on the weaker end of things, albeit still better than the 12 mini).
