🛑WATCH BEFORE PAINTING IKEA FURNITURE🛑 While you can technically sand down the coated composite wood boards IKEA furniture is made out of, sanding sucks and is time consuming and you run the risk of sanding too much and revealing the textured inside of the boards. Using a shellac primer like @zinsser BIN primer will let you skip sanding and help adhere to the boards and stick to the paint you apply after.
